What causes Gumfreston to flood?

Heavy rainfall to the north can overwhelm a culvert beneath the road, spreading water across the carriageway. This usually clears once the rain eases. River flooding is less common but more serious. When the river rises high enough to overtop the road, it can stay that way for hours because drainage downstream is limited.
